The biggest killers in the United States may be heart disease and cancer but the third cause of death is medical negligence. Negligence happens, at times through a mistake of tired doctor and at other times because of a broken piece of equipment. Occasionally these things cannot be helped but more often than not they can be prevented with basic vigilance on the part of the doctor. Negligence means that the doctor did not do everything in their power to stop their patient from coming to harm.

Negligence is not always about doctors and nurses. Medications that are defective and equipment that has been poorly maintained may also cause medical negligence. A doctor is only responsible for his own negligence, like each health care provider. Hospitals and clinics are responsible for their equipment. Drug companies are responsible for their products. That may sound simple but it all honesty that can become a hot button issue if the negligence case should ever go to court. Proof is needed in any case that goes to court, the proof of what cause the patient to come to harm.  That may be more difficult than it sounds. A patient comes to harm but how? Good luck in figuring that out.

Doctors are human and they do make mistakes but negligence is not always their fault. A defective medication can be just as harmful if not more so then a negligent doctor. Medical negligence has to be proven in a legal case. Negligence is a large killer in the United States. Drug companies and hospitals are just as responsible as any doctor. Patients come to harm no matter who makes a mistake and they should all be held responsible. Negligence is not something that should be taking lightly by anyone.
